Tetebatu,
on the slopes of Mount Rinjani on Lombok, is an incredible place to
visit with its mountain-spring-fed streams and traditional villages. The
country side is filled with tobacco and rice fields and the mountains
are responsible for the spectacular back drop. There are lots of fruit
trees and some unbelievable waterfalls. You also notice that the air
here is less sticky than the coastal areas and this is only at the lower
slopes of the Rinjani volcano.
It is so worth staying here for a few days. Stay overnight in the pondoks or cottages and go for nature treks that will lead you amongst the most breathtaking trails, crossing a few streams, or go all the way up Mount Rinjani (3726m)
Tim and myself were invited to celebrate Idul Fitri in Tetebatu, the festival celebrating the end of Ramadhan. Families are all getting together, eating delicious foods and catching up with each others life stories.
If you are planning a visit to Tetebatu, check out Wisma Soedjono. You can start all your treks right from your lovely chalet style cottage.
We would sincerely like to thank the whole Soeweno family for their
generous hospitality. Terima
Kasih!
